Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important political figure said the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
